Doctor Who: Ncuti Gatwa Reveals The Previous Doctors He Wants To Team Up With

Ncuti Gatwa reveals his dream multi-Doctor story line-up of classic and revival incarnations of the Time Lord ahead of his return as the Fifteenth Doctor’s return in Doctor Who season 14. Gatwa took the key to the TARDIS in Doctor Who‘s 60th anniversary’s final act, succeeding David Tennant’s Fourteenth Doctor before meeting companion Ruby Sunday (Millie Gibson) in the 2023 seasonal special, “The Church on Ruby Road”. Alongside Gatwa and Gibson, Doctor Who season 14 will feature the return of past companions Yasmin Finney, Bonnie Langford, and Jemma Redgrave as Rose Noble, Mel Bush, and Kate Stewart.

With the TARDIS team set to return for Doctor Who season 14, Screen Rant sat down with Gatwa to discuss which past incarnations of the Doctor he would like to team up with for a multi-Doctor adventure. Having already shared the screen with First Doctor David Bradley and Tennant in 2023, Gatwa revealed that he would want to team up with Matt Smith”s Eleventh Doctor and Jon Pertwee’s Third Doctor, but would also want to unite Tennant, Seventh Doctor Sylvester McCoy, and Twelfth Doctor Peter Capaldi for an all-Scottish Doctor adventure. Check out Gatwa’s response below:

Screen Rant: Ncuti, we’ve seen your Doctor share scenes with David Tenet’s 14th Doctor and David Bradley’s first Doctor. Are there any other incarnations you would like to go on a multi-Doctor adventure with?

Ncuti Gatwa: Yes. Oh my God. I would love to go on a multi-doctor adventure with Matt Smith. [Ruby] can come as well. And also with Jon Pertwee, Sylvester McCoy, David Tennant again, and Peter Capaldi. Get the Scots in; Peter Capaldi! All the Scottish Doctors. Which is a lot of Doctors, but that’s the adventure.

Could The Fifteenth Doctor Have A New Multi-Doctor Adventure??

The Fourteenth and Fifteenth Doctor (David Tennant and Ncuti Gatwa) stand side by side in Doctor Who.

Currently, Gatwa has earned overwhelming support from his Doctor Who predecessors ever since he was first cast in 2022. Alongside messages of support from McCoy and Sixth Doctor Colin Baker, Capaldi, Smith, Fourth Doctor Tom Baker, and Eighth Doctor Paul McGann have all issued statements in interviews and panels to discuss their excitement about the newest incarnation. Meanwhile, Thirteenth Doctor Jodie Whittaker reached out to Gatwa to congratulate him, while due to the unique circumstances surrounding the Doctor Who 60th anniversary’s regeneration, Tennant was able to offer the latest Doctor guidance as he stepped into the role.

Despite the positivity shared among Doctor Who leads past and present, an upcoming multi-Docor happening soon seems unlikely. After two years featuring major multi-Doctor events and specials, there are few occasions to celebrate, with showrunner Russell T Davies ruling out any story to mark the 20th anniversary of Doctor Who‘s revival in 2005. However, with 2007 having seen a surprise meeting between the Fifth Doctor (Peter Davidson) and Tenth Doctor (Tennant, again) for a surprise Children in Need minisode, perhaps there can be smaller stories where multiple Doctors meet once more for a good cause.

While Gatwa may not have his own multi-Doctor story in the foreseeable future, it’s fun to learn his choices for his dream Time Lord team-up. Alongside uniting the Scottish stars, Gatwa has discussed his appreciation for Pertwee’s Third Doctor in the past, including his sense of style. With “The Church on Ruby Road” showing that the Fifteenth Doctor can easily keep up with his third incarnation’s action hero antics, an expanded media adventure between the two Time Lords could easily provide Doctor Who with a perfect blend of the Gatwa era and Pertwee’s Earthbound adventures.

Doctor Who season 14 premieres simultaneously on Disney+ and BBC iPlayer on May 10/11.
